Workgroup Information File Missing

B

Brian

I am using an Access database that is also used by
several others and when I go to open it I get the
error "Workgroup Information File is Missing or Opened
Exclusively By Another User". I checked around and no
other user had the database open at the time. Can
someone help? Thanks.

Look in the folder where the mdw file is. If there is a file with the same
name, but a ldb extension, delete it.

Joan,

I apologize for my ignorance, but where would I possibly
find these files? Thanks.

Hi Brian,

Are you opening the file via a desktop shortcut? If so, right-click on the
shortcut, choose properties and look at the target. It contains (along with
the path to msaccess, and the path to the mdb) the path to the mdw.

Joan,

Yes I am using a desktop shortcut. The only target I
found points to a folder on our server where the database
is stored. I wend to that folder and the only thing
there was the mdb file.

It sounds as though the database isn't secure then. Or possibly it is, but
you aren't joined to the correct workgroup.

Use start, Find Files or Folders and locate all *.mdw files on your
computer.

You don't mention version, but if Access 2000, use Start, Run, wrkgadm.exe
and see which one you are currently joined to by default (If Access 2002,
use Tools, security, workgroup administrator).
