workflow activity and item collection editor

Hi, I have a activity property where I like to define a collection at design
time.
When I set such a property (a collection for example), Visual studio pops up
with the 'item collection editor', I'm able to create new objects but the
object value is greyed out and cannot be set.
Alos when I close the 'itel collection editor' my objects are gone.
What am I missing here?

Correction, the objects are persistent, so only the object value is greyed out

Make sure that your collection object is created in the default constructor.
