I purchased an XP Upgrade package. I can't convert word
perfect documents to Word. What do I do?

I assume that you have Word installed {Word is not part of the Windows XP
operating system}.
If you do have Word installed, go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and
either Microsoft Word or Microsoft Office {which depends on how Word was
installed}. Click on Change and then select add or remove features. The go
to the Converter section and select the Word Perfect converters to "Run on
My Computer",
