I was going to buy MS Works 2008 for a friend who i'm advising on what pc & software to buy.
They how ever have used WordPad and feel it's all they will need to use for letters etc.
Is WordPad a scaled down version on Word?
Does it come with Vista Home?
And would it do the job of writing letters etc?

Wordpad comes with every version of windows from 95 onwards I think - it's certainly in Vista :)

Wordpad is the most basic of editors, and would be fine for simple word processing but nothing more. If they do want something a little more advanced then OpenOffice might be a good bit of software - it's a free/open source version of MS Office. It's really good for a free bit of software

Sadly when i mentioned OpenOffice to them & said it was free they thought i was trying to give them some junk!
I never really used WordPad until today so may need to show them the joys of OO.
