Doc (rtf) created on flash drive on friend's PC. Opened it several times
over weekend. Home. connected flash drive to my PC and wordpad document
not there!

Friend's PC shows a "short cut" to the document on my flash drive, stating
my "flash" drive is gone (Naturally cuz it's at my home.) Where is the
document?

Is it in heaven at least?

Flash drives are formatted with the outdated FAT(16) file system by
default in many cases, even when holding up to 2 GB. Therefore, the
first thing to do is reformatting new drives with FAT32. Flash drives
having 1 GB and more should be formatted with NTFS unless being used
with older systems (Win98/Me). So I guess that you did not do that and
that you're running that particular drive with "good" ol' FAT being
damaged now unless you deleted that particular .rtf file by accident.

My Computer > right click that drive > Properties > Tools tab. Test that
drive and tick the option to correct any error automatically. If this
doesn't help, your data will be lost most likely and a third-party
Undelete tool may or may not restore that file successfully. Note also
that the life cycle of frequently used flash drives does not last very
long unless "designed for ReadyBoostT".

The most common cause of this is removing the thumb drive without using the
"Safely remove hardware feature." If the document was in use when you do
that, POOF, it can be lost.
