Word won't let me backspace delete, makes noise with each letter

I apparently hit some random buttons and the editing function went to hell. I
get a chitering noise with each keystroke, can't type double leters, can't
backspace delete more than one leter at a time, sometimes can't move the
cursor more than one leter at a time even with control shift right or left.
Please help, I edit for a living.

Sounds like Accessibility Options (Windows Control Panel). In addition to
turning them off, be sure to disable the feature that makes it too easy to
turn them on accidentally!
