backspace wont delete whole word, just one letter?

I know this is gonna be a very easy fix, but I can't figure it out. For some
reason when I select a whole word and hit backspace to delete, it won't? It
will only delete a single letter at a time. I'm sure I've hit a button or
something, but I can not figure it out...Help!

More than a button or something. Choose Options from the Tools drop down
menu, click on the Edit tab in the dialog box that opens. Place a check in
Typing replaces selection.
