Word will not show pictures except in Preview

Word 2003 and word XP will not show pictures except in Print Preview,
"Placeholder" is NOT checked.

This is an HP and does not have the ability to turn down he graphic
acceletator speed.

Somtimes it looks like there are 'layers' as the pictures will show and then
disappear.

It's almost certainly a screen driver issue - see if there's a driover
update

The video card (display adapter) in your PC will have been made by a third
party manufacturer.Right click a blank area of your desktop and select
'properties' then settings > advanced. You will be able to identify your
adapter from there. (You should also be able to set the hardware
acceleration from the troubleshooting tab). When you have identified the
hardware, run along to the manufacturer's support web site and download the
latest driver.
