I am having a few problems. I can create documents, but once I type in them,
I can't use the mouse and go back and choose something in the document, or
insert my cursor in a previous area of the document. I can't click on a
document and open it, but I can open word and find the document and then open
it. After I do this though, I can't edit the document, and can do very
limited things with it. The documents aren't protected, and they were
created on this pc. I am at a loss with it.

This is in Microsoft word 2003. I did forget to mention that "small
detail". I don't know if this is the right group for this post. If someone
has another one to suggest or help. I would greatly appreciate it.

I have tried restarting the machine. I have checked file permissions. I
have done a repair on word with the repair function in the menu. I can't
figure it out. Another thing, I can use the arrow keys to move around the
document, and edit it, but I can't select with the mouse. I thought it
might be the mouse, but it works fine. I am thinking about a reinstall, but
I am not for sure if that will work. Thanks for the input so far.

Hi Shawn,

If you hold the ctrl key while starting Word to put Word into Office safe mode does the mouse work? If so then it can be a damaged
data key (covered in the articles linked to in Graham's reply) or a conflicting 3rd party add-in, such as LaserFiche (which has an
updated version).

Before restarting Word use Start=>Search and clear out old temp files found with search string of
~$*.*;*.tmp
and sending them to the recycle bin.

It ended up being a Laserfiche problem. Laserfiche corrupted the
"normal.dot" and "send to laserfiche.dot". The fix was to delete these
files out of "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates", and let Microsoft word recreate them. After that
was done, it worked fine. Thanks everyone for your responses.
