If anyone can help
I am running office 2000 Professional SR-1. Word will open but then crashes. I keep getting this message: Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close

The following file has been included in this error report : C:\DOCUME~1\jlindsey\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERDD.tmp.dir00\appcompat.tx

what does this mean and how can i get back to working with word

I have tried reinstalling and trying to repair the install

thanks

Justin

Sometimes these problems occur due to a corruption of the global template
that Word uses (normal.dot). Unfortunately it does NOT get overwritten when
you reinstall the program. Try this:

1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Do a file search for "normal.dot".
3. When found, rename it to "normal.old".
4. Close Windows Explorer
5. Re-open Word and see if it is happy

Depending on the operating system you have, "normal.dot" might be in a
hidden folder so you might need to set up Windows Explorer to view hidden
files and folders (under "Tools", "Folder options", "View" TAB).

Holler back if that doesn't work for you!
