Word Opening page

When I open Word, there is already a letter typed on the page. I have to delete each time before I can begin work. Its like a template. Can anyone help? When I go to 'file', new and templates, it shows up but won't let me delete. Message says can't delete because its open. Can anyone help?

You apparently made some changes to the Normal.dot template which is the
default template for Word. You will need to replace this template.

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to:

C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates

Right click the Normal.dot file and select Delete. A new Normal.dot file
will be created the next time you open Word.

Greetings --

You've somehow managed to over-write Word's Normal.DOT template
with one of your own documents. Click Start > Search and do a search
for "Normal.dot." When you find the copy of the template that's
stored within your user profile, rename it to something like
"myfile.doc." The next time you open Word, a new template (that
stores your default margins and paragraph formats) will be created.

There are macro viruses that can cause this to happen. Do you
have a decent antivirus application installed, and do you keep its
definition files up-to-date?
