I installed MS Office 2003 which of course includes MsWord 2003. The problem
that I am encountering is this: For some technical reason my Word now only
allows me to open existing files. It won't allow me to create new docs, nor
it would allow me to insert anything, let alone edit an existing doc. In
short, all the main functions in the tool bars are "locked." How do I unlock
them? I have never encountered this problem before...

Open Word. Help - Activate product. If it's already activated, it will tell
you so. If not, follow the instructions.

As for how it might not have been activated, perhaps when you were
installing it, you accidentally told it to activate later? Hard to say. I
know that when we are installing software, we are excited about using that
software so maybe we don't pay as much attention to what we are doing and
just click blindly. Who knows? ;-)
