Word NOT starting correctly

When I do a Start, Programs, Microsoft Office and Word, Word is NOT opening
up. The only way Word opens is when I open a currently saved document.

Is something corrupt on my computer??? Can anyone help me troubleshoot this???

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.
