Word is taking too long to open files

Word takes 30 seconds to 1 minute to open files or start a new file. This is
happening on several pcs in the office. Any idea on what caused this or how
to remedy it?

There are any number of reasons for apparent slowdown. One of the most
common causes is drive space. When were the drives last defragged? How full
are the drives?

Network connections involved? Are the files large or complex? Have they been
revised repeatedly over time?

Other possibilities are addressed here:

Plenty of drive space. I'll try a defrag (although this didn't solve the
issue on a different workstation). This is a pc that is on a network. Files
are not very large or complex, but they do get revised periodically. I saw
the article you refer to and tried everything there and even uninstalled and
re-installed Word, renamed the template.doc file, deleted the data registry
entry for Word....and nothing has worked yet.
