Word is slow when containing graphs with large number of data poi.

Using Excel (2003), I created a few graphs with 30k data points. Copying
these graphs to Word 2007 makes the document unbearably slow to scroll and
work with. I tried to use placeholders but the graphs are still there, so I
guess that only works with actual images.
I have contemplated inserting the graphs into my word document as an image,
to speed things up, but I don't really like the stretched text that results
from re-sizing the image.
Does anyone have any ideas?

In case you are wondering, I am running XP.

Thank you for your suggested solution grammatim, it has improved the speed
considerably. I (Obviously) hadn't explored anything beyond ctrl + c and
ctrl + v. You have opened up a whole new world to me.
Cheers!
