word is says document has been locked on every document

how do i disengage Word when it tells me "This modification is not allowed
because this document is locked"?
 
Usually, this is because either you have not activated Word and it has been
used more than 50 times, or because you're using a trial version that has
expired. Choose Help - Activate Product... what does it tell you?
