Word help

I hit something by mistake while I was typing my document - now everytime I
hit the retrun key I get a symbol on my document and everytime I hit the
space bar i get a . Can someone tell me how to turn this off.

The paragraph symbol ¶ also appears on a button on the toolbar (or on the
Home ribbon if you have Word 2007). Click it to turn it off. Or use the
keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+8.
