Word gives error message on opening

Word gives a "encountered a problem and have to close' message whenever it is
opened. I have removed and reinstalled Office 2000 with no luck. Ran virus
check and it came out negative. Ran restore to known good date, no luck.
Excel and Power Point run OK. Any ideas on what causes this ? Thanks.
