Word freezes all the time

Hi,
I am using MS Word 2003 and everytime I open Word the laptop completely
freezes. I am not opening templates or accessing network files (it is a
standalone laptop). I have to reboot the laptop to get it going again and it
will freeze like this evertime. Appreciate any help.
