Word document should allow page numbering with option: page x of .

I would like to see an option in Word whereby one can do page numbering of a
document in the format of "page x of y pages". For instance, if the document
has 12 pages, one should have the option of numbering the pages automatically
as page 1 of 12, page 2 of 12 etc. It would be especially useful for reports
where this format is standard. At present, I don't believe it is possible to
do this in Word.

This is easily achieved in Word with a couple of fields and the accompanying
text

page {page} of {numpages} pages

placed in the footer

You can save that as an autotext entry for ease of repetition if you wish.

This is built in already, in the footer toolbar. "Insert
number of pages" is the name of the button. Just type
in "Page" a space, press the # button in the toolbar, type
in "of" a space, then press the number of pages button.

On the Header and Footer toolbar, there is an AutoText menu. Select Page X
of Y from the menu, and you will have exactly what you are asking for. The
AutoText entry is merely a shortcut to insert Page { PAGE } of { NUMPAGES }.
