Word document as attachment

Microsoft Office Professional 2007 trial version
A document was downloaded off the internet, add to in Word, printed out,
signed,
scanned, and sent as a Word attachment in an AOL email. When I got the
document it didn't look right. The information that was added (I'm guessing)
was screwed up in that instead of words there was a collection of letters and
symbols where the added words should be. I need to know how to fix this
please! Soon!
 
If the document was printed, signed, and SCANNED... then it's no longer a
Word document, and can't be a Word attachment. It's a graphic, instead, and
should be opened by a graphics program, not by Word.
