Word delimiters in Windows XP SP2

Since I moved to Windows XP SP2, I found out that dots are no longer
recognized as word delimiters in file names. In the past, using crtl +
right or left arrow in a file name, made the curser stop before and
after dots in the file name. This does not work anymore in XP SP2.

Is there a registry key I can alter to give a list of custom word
delimiter characters?

I know people don't use this trick much, so it is not a key feature of
windows............
besides, microsoft keeps the rights to modify windows..........
