Word defaulting to foreign dictionary for spell check; can't chang

In some documents that I use as templates, there are sections of the document
where spell check will use the French dictionary. I don't seem to have the
option to change the default back to US English. Anyone encounter a similar
problem, or have ideas on how to fix it?

Select those areas and change the language setting to US English. Also, turn
off the automatic detection of language changes.
