The way I would solve that problem would be to do the note in Word which has
a word count feature as well as possibly stronger grammer checking and other
tools, then copy/paste the result into the notes pane of the slide.
Not what you asked, specifically, just how I would go about it.

Or to turn the same idea around a few times til' it's a bit dizzy and then give it
a shove in a different direction:
Extract all the notes text from the PPT into a notepad file
Paste that into Word
Use WordWordCount (and grammar,spell,lice and other-pestcheck if you like).

Even better, saves the young lady from copy-pasting each slide-notes
individually into word.
Also, some objects and methods I haven't used yet, I will save that one for
my toolbox, if you don't mind.
