I use the balloon comments in grading online. When entering comments into
one student’s papers, the lines in the balloon are double spaced, thus taking
up too much room. I can’t figure out how to change that to single-spaced
comments. Can you help?

This student, it would appear, has actually modified Normal style to be
double-spaced instead of just applying double spacing as direct formatting.
This is a student who is headed in the right direction but perhaps should be
advised to modify and use Body Text instead of Normal for his paper. The
problem with modifying Normal is that it affects every other style that is
based on Normal, including Comment Text and Balloon Text, both of which may
be involved here. You can reverse this issue by modifying those styles to be
single-spaced.

Thank you for your reply. I understand that the student might have done this
by modifying the normal document template. My question remains, How do I
format my response to this student in single spacing--my normal template is
single spacing.

You misunderstood me. I meant that he modified Normal style in this
document. The formatting of the style in his document will override the
formatting of your Normal.dot. You will need to modify the Comment Text and
Balloon Text styles in the student's document. See
