Losing $$ with Word in Toronto

After more than 25 hours of work on a document, Word has
caused an error. I cannot access my document due to a MS
bug. I get the message "Document name or path is not
valid." This is the FOURTH time Word has messed up this
document, and as a technical writer who makes her living
creating and maintaining documents, I have lost several
hours of work, and therefore lost income. Incidentally,
the back-up version(s) is/are also inaccessible. Nice
work, world-class developers. Nice work.

What's the bug that prevents access to your document?

If your backups are also screwed, then either you have a virus or you have a
hardware problem.

Hi Toronto

I've had a similar problem, though it was with a template, not a document

(1.) Go to www.openoffice.org and download the latest version of OpenOffice for your platform.

(2.) Once OpenOffice is installed, try opening the "corrupt" document. If you're lucky, it'll work. If it worked, save the file in OpenOffice format (.sxw I think). Then re-open the file in OpenOffice, and save it out as either a Word .doc file or RTF. That should exorcise any demons

Good luck

Microsoft does not monitor this group so your frustration is lost on them.
This group is serviced by fellow Word users.
The answer to your problem is almost certainly a Word registration error -
