Word..autoformat periods between words

I am trying to create a program with a name then dots to their affiliation to
me...ie. Beth Johnson....friend of the couple.

How do I get the periods in-between without typing them myself?

I'm not exactly sure what you're doing ("trying to create a program"), but
you might take a look at tab leaders to see if that gets you what you want.
One tab leader option is fill the space between two items that are separated
by a tab, with dots.
