Word attachments via Outlook 2003 are read-only

I'm having an interesting problem which I can't seem to figure out.
One of my employees on our LAN receives an email from someone (anyone)
with a Word .doc attachment. I receive a cc of the same email. When
User1 opens the attachment in Word, the file is read-only. When I
open the attachment, it is NOT read-only. We are not using an
exchange server. The OS on each computer is Windows XP Pro, SP2. We
are using the Windows 2003 Small Business Server. We have 12 users on
our local network and only one seems to be having this read-only
problem. I'm not even sure if this is an Outlook problem or a Word
problem. Any suggestions? Thanks!
 
I've read others having this problem also, have the user open the email then
the attachment. Don't open from the preview pane.

There has to be a fix for this as i have a user experiencing the same issue.
