Word attachments chaning to windat files

When I send word attachments out, the file is changing to
a windat file. I am using windows 98. Why does this
happen?

you are sending RTF formatted messages. switch to plain text.

Try using Plain Text or HTML format to send your attachment.

To change the format of your email:
Open TOOLS | OPTIONS... | MAIL FORMAT
