word as email editor hang when trying to save...

Hello,
I am using Windows XP pro and Office XP professional.
Configuration:
-> Outlook uses Word as the email editor.
->Word always creates a backup copy when saving a file.

If I do the following:
Open Outlook
Open an email saved in the draft folder
Open Word
Open a word document already existing
change the word document
save
change the word document again
save again
Word Hang and I can't recover neither the word document
nor the email that I was editing.
Then when I close manually Word, it says 'The program is
not responding' and I loose everything.
If I close Outlook, it seems to close properly but in
fact the process Outlook is still running.

I lost a lot of work because of this bug and I would like
to know if there is any solution/fix for it.

Thank you for your help.

Ditto. I've seen this exact occurence on Outlook 2003 (but it didn't do it on
the previous version).
Our entire office (25 people) have continual crashes of Outlook when using
Word as the editor.
Often after it crashes, you have to go into the task manager to end the Word
process and/or the Outlook process before you can start Outlook again. Even
then, it usally continues to re-crash until you reboot the computer. In
nearly every instance, it sends a Microsoft an error report, but I have seen
nothing from them to fix this (I am running SP1 already).
Very frustrating and loss of work/time.
