Word and Norton Fail to Open

Howdy,

I recently used a program called Eraser to permanently delete files in my
unused disk space, or at least, what I thought was unused disk space. The
program basically overwrites files with layers of meaningless code. Now, I
can't access either Microsoft Word or Norton Antivirus. Norton fails to load
altogether while Microsoft Word shows the initial load screen and then
freezes. I can still access word files in Word Pad, but not in Microsoft
Word itself. I already tried to reinstall Microsoft Office to no avail.
Also, the Eraser program apparently eliminated any restore points. Any
suggestions would be super-appreciated. Thanks.

MS Word/Office will give you the option to "Repair" if you go to the
"Control Panel"/"Add Remove Programs" and remove the program. Please note
that I do not believe that this option is available in the Word/Office 97
version.

As for Norton, the Eraser program did you a favor. Norton is a memory hog,
bloated, ineffective, nagware package. If you are a non-commercial entity,
go to the link below and download AVG's antivirus. It's free and better
than Norton.
