Word 97 program freezes

Since the latest Service Pack update my Word program has locked up when I
want to scroll down a document or make any changes. I can't even cut and
paste it. I did a diganostic andit came up with a suggstion to go to Word
Options and open the dialogue in the Trust Center. The Word Options only
allows me to make changes in the "Popular" section the rest of the options
are locked out.--

Try deleting the Data key in the registry. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm. Note that if you
are using Word 2007, the full "path" to the Data key is:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data.

I went to the hyperlink you provided and the Word 2007 that they listed shows
....\Office\8.0\Word\Data and your response states it is
....\Office\12.0\Word\Data. Which one should I use?

As I wrote, if you are using Word 2007, you should delete the key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data.

In the subject, you have stated that you are using Word 97, but I assumed
that was a typo, since you are referring to the Popular section (which
doesn't exist in versions prior to Word 2007).
