Word 97 on XP, problems saving

G

Guest

I have a new system with XP PRO SP2. I installed Office 97. All seems fine
except that word 97 seemed to crash upon saving, 50% of the time. I tried
switching the program to run under compatibility mode for 95 and then 98 -
each gave me the same problem. I then installed Office 97 updates (SR1 and
SR2b) hoping that would solve the problem.

Now it seems saving is more stable, however whenever I save a file, no
matter what I name it the resulting file's name only contains the first
letter, the rest has been ignored. This seems to apply to Excell docs as
well.

I have searched through Microsoft site for support and seem to have run out
of options. Any suggestions?

Hi,
generally, never install an older version after a new version.
If it has to be, I'd try to remove all office stuff, install
Office 97 and then higher versions, if you really need them.

Compatibility mode is what is causing your problem. This is not necessary
for Word 97. Disable that and see if it helps.
