Word 2007

In the past I made documents in Word 2007 and locked them to keep any one
else from making changes. For some reason, the pane where I can define the
restrictions on the right of my screen no longer appears when I try to
protect a document or even unprotect one now. What did I do?

What kind of protection? This sounds like protection for forms, in which
case you will find the forms tools on the Developer tab (which you will need
to add from Word Options > Popular if not already displayed). If you are
