What happens if you right-click on the filename? Do you get a shortcut menu
that includes that option?

The pin is a toggle: clicking with the left mouse button on the pin graphic
pins or unpins the file. Other MS software, e.g., Visual Studio, uses the
same technique for pinning and unpinning objects.
