Word 2007 Templates HELP

Finding out how Templates Work in Word 2007 seems particularly obscure. I am
a long term WORD user (Since Word 2) and have even given classes on Word.
But I can't seem to find where WORD 2007 is hiding it's HELP.

What I'm trying to do is change the template being used by existing .doc
files.
I have a Master Document and want to ensure all it's sub-documents are using
the same Template.

In the Developer ribbon tab, click Document Template. If the Developer
ribbon is not displayed, click the Office button, Word Options, Popular tab,
"Show Developer tab in the Ribbon".

Many thanks. Office 2007 is like visiting your home town only to find
they've changed the layout of the streets and moved all the buildings. I do
think MS have done a better job of laying things out - if only we weren't
used to things the way they were.

What is unforgivable however is that HELP could not tell me where it was.

My analogy is moving to a new house. You still have all the same cups and
saucers and pots and pans and cutlery and stuff, but the cupboards and
drawers are different, so you have to put things in different places, and it
takes a while to get adjusted to where you should look for your carving
knife or potholders.

An even closer analogy is the sort of storage arrangements most of us tend
to fall into: you acquire something new, and there isn't really a good or
"logical" place to put it, so you put it wherever it fits. This means that
you have a hodge-podge of stored items that no one else would ever figure
out how to locate, but you know where they are. At some point you decide to
"organize" your closets, drawers, filing cabinets, etc., and put things in
"logical" places. Then you can never find anything again because you keep
looking where things are "supposed" to be.

Suzanne,

Your analogies, especially the second one, are excellent. It is tough
to get used to the new ways in Word 2007, but, viewed objectively, it
really is much better organized.

Old users have to re-learn how to use it, but definitely better for
new users -- or old users attempting to use features they haven't used
before.

I agree. And the day is not far off for me, as I'm within a week or two of
moving into my new computer and installing Office 2007. I'll be installing
it side-by-side with Office 2003 to begin with, for a variety of reasons,
not least of which is that I know that for a while I'll be falling back on
Word 2003 to "get work done" while I am "playing" with Word 2007 and trying
to learn how to use it.
