I am using word 2007 beta and am very disappointed to see that it still uses
the really ugly old school split window mdi. It would be nice to see tabs as
they are by now the standard for mdi and the oldschool style of multi child
window interfaces should be no more for at least word....

Sort of ironic that may other microsoft office and developer tools support
tabs such as excel and visual studio... it would be nice though if word 2007
had nicer looking ones that visual studio 2003 professional....

seriously tabs!...possibly like the new ie 7 beta with a preview of all open
documents?

Hi Mick,

You are suggesting a major change and it is too late in the beta process
to make that happen. You definitely won't see it in 2007. I am sure
Microsoft will look at the MDI issue when they start working on the
successor to Office 2007, Office 14.
You might want to take a look at Access 2007, as that application offers
tabs in 2007 (as an alternative to the usual MDI interface).

The successor to Office 2007 will be Office 13 (which is probably in
development already).

In a rare public display of triskaidekaphobia, the developers have already
said they're going to skip Office 13 and go straight to 14. Maybe they'll
just stick all the bugs in 13 and burn it in effigy. :-)

Ah, now that you mention it, I did hear speculation about that, but I had
forgotten about it (and discounted it at the time). OTOH, they skipped from
2.0 to 6.0, so there's precedent.
