Word 2007 Slow Startup

T

Tom from WI

I am using Word 2007 on a fairly new laptop (AMD Turion 64X2 cpu, 3GB RAM)
and it starts up very slowly, taking about 45 seconds before it is usable.
No other applications are running.
On another, older, slower desktop, Word 2007 loads in 1-2 seconds. Any clues
that may help this laptop load Word faster?

Excel, on the other hand, loads in one second on this laptop.

Thanks for the help.

Have you installed a local printer driver and set as the Windows Default?

Yes. The same wi-fi printer is used for both the laptop and the desktop PC
and it is set as the default.

WiFi printer is probably the cause. Please test by installing a different
printer and set as the Windows default. Try the Windows Generic Text printer
as this is just a test to eliminate the printer as the problem.

I think you were on to something. There were several "printers" in my
printer list, most of which I didn't recognize and/or don't have. I deleted
all of the "printers" except the wi-fi printer and now Word is opening in 2
seconds. Thanks for the help.

Thanks to both of you for the question, information, and follow-up. I had the same problem (45 - 60 seconds for MS-Word 2007 to open a small-ish document). My default printer was set to CutePDF Writer (after reading about problems in Word when a HP printer is set as the default) -- but I did notice a network printer that I use when at a client's office.

After saving the details of the client's printer setup I deleted the printer. Now MS-Word opens that same document in about two seconds! Thanks again!
