word 2004 (mac) to word 2003

One user has word 2004 (mac) the other has word 2003 pc. the pc user can not
open a word file created by the mac user, however, if he brins the word file
on a memory stick to me -also a word 2003 user, I can open the file. Why is
this and how do I resolve the issue for the other pc user?

Thanks,

Clare

What *does* happen when the other user tries, & how is he trying?

Make sure the other user is copying the file to their HD rather than trying
to open the file from the memstick (don't try to _save_ directly to
removable media either). Have them go through Word's File>Open dialog rather
than double-clicking the file icon.

If they are trying to open the file from an email attachment that could be
the problem - have them save to the HD & open that copy.

The Mac user should be certain that the docs get saved with a .doc
extension.

There could be other issues as well, but the file formats on Mac & PC have
been the same for quite a few versions, so there isn't any inherent
compatibility issue. If these suggestions don't help, specify how the other
PC user is getting the Word doc as well as any other detail you can offer.
