I've been googling this issue for some time and am finding a lot of people
with the same problem and no good answers.

When a user has the option (in Outlook) to use Word to edit e-mail messages
enabled and clicks to reply, forward, or create a new message, Outlook (or
Word in the background) freezes. This requires entering the Task Manager
and manually stop the Word and Outlook processes.

For users that have run into this problem, we have disabled that option and
things work great, but I know users like the option and would like to find a
real fix to the problem.

So far I have tried:

Uninstalling any program that has an Office Addon (Abode Acrobat, etc.).
This didn't work

Delete / Rename the normal.dot file and have Word recreate it. This didn't
work.

Deleting all Word processes before opening a new e-mail in Outlook. This
didn't work.

Any known fixes out there?

I'm in the same boat.
Just don't use word for email editor. If your users know about that,
then God help you!

Most of the time it's an addin or template in word. Note that there is no
need to uninstall the apps, just remove the template or disable the template
in word. in fact, uninstalling it may not remove the template so it won't
fix the problem.

since that apparently is not your problem, try deleting the SRS file for
their profile.

The SRS delete seems to have worked! Since it started being a problem on
two different computers just recently I was wondering if an MS or Office
update caused a problem.

I deleted the file, opened Outlook, enabled the option, hit reply to a
message and it opened right up. One one computer it gave a message box that
it was Starting Word as the editor, and one didn't, but both worked.

What does the SRS file do anyways? It was a pretty small file on both
computers.

it's the send and receive group settings. When it gets corrupted there is
usually a problem with send and receives or the send and receive dialog
crashing but occasionally it shows up when trying to create a message.

Hello!

I have the same problem but it is impossible to find SRS file on my computer.
Could you please tell me whether it is possible to solve this problem in the
other way?

I am will be very glad to hear any solution, because it is really important
for me.

Thanks and Regards,
Siarhei
