Word 2003 - How to format document to print as DUPLEX

I must be blind as I am sure I have done this before, how can I auto-format a
large A4 document to optimise the margins on alternate pages for Duplex
printing?

Perhaps what you're referring to is the "Mirror margins" setting?

Are you trying to set up "mirrored margins"? If so:

View > Header and Footer (Header and Footer toolbar appears)

Next, click Page Setup, then, in the Margins section, adjust your gutter.

Next, under the "Pages" section, choose Mirrored Margins, then click OK.
