Word 2003 Disappears without warning

Sometimes when working between two Word documents, cut&paste, Word completely
disappears. Other times I click on my explorer button or inbox - same thing.
Seems to happen for no reason. There's no typical warning about Word
shutting down and when I reopen Word my recovered documents are there. I've
had Word reinstalled but the problem is continuing. This is a recent problem
- 3 weeks or so, have not encountered this in the past year. Checked for
viruses. This is becoming a real nuisance - any ideas?

I ran into this awhile back and found out it had to do with Handwriting
Recognition. It happened to me if I accidentally clicked a minimized
taskbar button. Usually switching back and forth between documents by
minimizing and maximizing windows works great, but if you click the wrong

I have had exactly the same problem in exactly the same timeframe in Word
2002, not sometimes but everytime. Reinstalling has no effect. None of the
solutions offered by respondants seems to help. I do not use signature
recognition. All updates have been installed. Very frustrating .The only
solution I've found is to switch to The Open Office software system, but I
would prefer to go on using Word 2002.
