We are using Word 2003 XML tagging feature a lot. If I use AutoNum feature
with a paragraph where has been tagged with customer XML tag. The number
will appear outside XML tag. What can I do to make Auto number inside the XML
tag?

Hi =?Utf-8?B?WXVob25n?=,

Basically, you cannot. This is because the AutoNumber being generated is not
"plain text" - the only thing an XML tag can hold - but a Word "structure".
Autonumbers are LISTS, and managed "outside" the text flow. Save a (simple) Word
document with a couple of numbered paragraphs to HTML format, then take a look
at the HTML source code to get an idea what I mean (that's easier than wading
through the XML, but similar principles apply).

The only way you can include numbers within your XML tags is if they're "plain
text".
