Hi!

When I hit 'Enter,' 'double vertical lines with a black circle on the left'
appear on my 'Word' screen and I do not know how to remove them. Also, when I
hit the 'space bar,' a dot comes up.

Any ideas?

This is an operating system group, Word is not part of Windows XP.
Try posting to a Word newsgroup.

It appears you have clicked the Pilcrow button on the standard taskbar.
This looks like a reversed cap P and shows non-printing characters.

Just click it again to toggle back to normal view.

If the pilcrow symbol does not appear on the taskbar, you can toggle it
on and off by using Ctrl+Shift+*

Although you may get an answer here in this Windows XP newsgroup,
please be aware that a question about Word is off-topic here, and you
are much more likely to get the help you are looking for if you would
ask in a Microsoft Word newsgroup; that's where the Word experts hang
out.
