Word 2002 Normal.dot problem

L

Lynne

I was working in Word XP last night. I have been using
Microsoft Word since I started with Dos so I am not
unfamiliar with Word. Last night I saved a document and
then I was unable to access any Word files on either my
hard drive or CD. I was given the message that the file
was unavailable. I also got the message that the
Normal.dot had been changed. I didn't change it. I am
desperate. What can I do to fix this problem? I
emailed Microsoft and got a response, but the answer did
not solve my problem. I need to fix this problem as soon
as possible. Please help me

Hi Lynne,

Try renaming the normal.dot template to normal.old and then re-start Word.

Also, see the article "How to re-register Word when problems crop up opening
files. Word files do not open in the desired version of Word when you
double-click them in Windows Explorer, or when opening them from the Desktop
or Explorer, a series of messages appear claiming that the file cannot be
opened." at:

Please respond to the newsgroups for the benefit of others who may be
interested.

Hope this helps
