I am having trouble getting Word to recognize a particular font that I have
to use...is there a way to correct it? It started after I had to reinstall
after a computer problem...

What does "recognize a font" mean?

Is the font installed in your Fonts folder?

Hi Sherri,

Did you reinstall the font? If it wasn't one of the standard Windows/Office fonts, you'll have to reinstall that font too
(presumably you still have the source disc for the font).

Yes, I have reinstalled the font and Word several times and still get the
same thing...Word recognizes the letters, but not the other characters like
quotation marks the apostrophe...things like that

Are you by any chance using a document that was originally created in
WordPerfect?

No, everything that I have already completed was done in WORD...when I pull
up the previous chapters to my book the font is correct punctuation and
everything, but now when I try using it Word doesn't recognize characters
like quotation marks and the apostrophe

Look in the Insert | Symbol dialog and see whether the font actually
contains those characters. Some fonts are very skimpy.

The font I have to use is not even listed in the insert symbol dialog box...I
checked again last night and it is only the apostrophe and quotation marks
that won't work the other symbols do...can this be fixed? Like I said it was
working before...

What happens if you type the name of the font into the Font box in the
Symbol dialog and press Enter? What is the name of the font, by the way?

According to http://www.dafont.com/final-frontier.font, this font contains
straight quotes and apostrophes (characters U0022 and U0027) but no curly
ones (U2018, U2019, U201C, and U201D). So what I imagine is happening is
that you're typing ' and " from the keyboard, and Word is AutoFormatting
them into characters that don't exist in the font.

There are two ways around this:

1. Temporarily disable "Straight quotes" with "smart quotes" on the
AutoFormat As You Type tab of Tools | AutoCorrect.

2. After typing a quote or apostrophe, press Ctrl+Z to undo the AutoFormat.
