Word 2000 loads too slow

I run Word 2000 on my windows 98 system. WHen I open a word document it takes literally 2-3 minutes for Word to load and then open the document. What can I do to speed up this process??

If you have Norton AV - uncheck its Office plug-in

It was already unchecked - is there anything else I could try to speed it up

Lose all those temporary files you have not cleared out for ages -

Check what add-ins are loading with Word and see if they are really
necessary - or up to date.
Run SpyBot or Adaware to see what is loading that you didn't know about.
Rename normal.dot to oldnormal.dot.
Defrag your hard drive.
