Word 2000: Inserting Objects

Guest

I am unable to insert newly created JPEG files created from a Canon Digital
Camera as objects (as icon) into a MS Word 2000 document. Photos I have
taken with the same Camera in the past work however any new ones I get an
error from Word 2000" The Server, Application, Source File cannot be found".
From the trouble shooting I have done it would appear that Word is trying to
process the jpeg file using Packager.

If I do a copy and paste special of the same JPEG file it thinks the Source
is a Package and the only option I get in the dialogue box is "Package Object"

Any ideas of what is causing the jpeg file to be interpreted as a package?

Something has apparently associated the file extension with a "Package". If you
go into Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder options/File Types what is listed next to
JPG or JPEG (they could be different!)? If it's not what you expect (some
graphics program) try clicking on "CHange" and selecting a graphics program.

Thanks for the idea! I had already gone down that road and the correct file
association is in place. I have done some more checking and is it possible
that there is a limitation on insertions of objects based on how many
subfolders down the target file is? The problem seems to go away if I put
the file at the main folder level

I've never seen anything like that, before, but I suppose it's possible. Are
you inserting a lot of "objects" into the one document? And are you using
Insert/Picture or Insert/Object for this? If the latter, do you see anything
different if you go over Insert/Picture, instead?
