Word 2000 Formatting on startup

When I open any document in Word 2000 with formatting (bullets, table, etc.), by using File - Open, all of the formatting for the document is gone. When I close it and then re-open using the Recently Used File list, the document is fine. We've reinstalled Office 2000, but it continues. Thoughts?
 
Try an MS Word or an MS Office newsgroup.
