Word 2000: Adjustable margins while in print preview--Where are th

I have searched everywhere for this, and I cannot find it. Sometimes, while
looking at a document in print preview, my margins show up and I can manually
drag them to adjust the margins on the page. How do I make this show up on
every document?

The only way I know of to change document margins by dragging is on the
ruler. Try View > Ruler.

I appreciate the response, but that isn't it. These guides appear on the
page, and there may be more than just the top, bottom, right, and left
margins. From the page, you can move them around (this is all in print
preview). I don't know why it appears only on some documents, but they are
very useful and I want to make them appear for all documents. : (

Have you ever had these in Word 2000? Referring to my manuals for older
versions, I see that the "text boundaries" were displayed and draggable in
Word 2.0 but were replaced by the ruler in Word 6.0. Text boundaries can be
displayed in Print Layout view, but they are not draggable.

I wondered whether they could have been from documents created in an older
version of word, but they have since been opened and saved in Office 2000.
Would the guides stay after the document was saved in a newer version of Word?

Thank you for responding. This is my first time using the forum, and I'm
grateful for the help.

No, this would be part of the UI, not the document. But see Beth's question
about Excel.

Cld it be you mistook an Excel document for a Word document? There in

I thought this was a feature also available in Word, but maybe my memory
deceives me--maybe it is only Excel. If so, I apologize for wasting your
time, and I appreciate all responses I received.

Thank you, everyone, for your time.

If you do use Excel then that's likely the case - you can click the Margins
button and adjust the worksheet margins and the header/footer margins in
Print preview. Word doesn't have this feature but you can use the Ruler in
Print Preview to change the margins. Also if you hold the Alt key as you are
dragging the margin indicators on the ruler you'll be able to see the
measurements. It's not the same behavior as what you find in Excel but it's
pretty close.

Btw, you didn't waste our time - you had a question and needed an answer.
